| | Install Microsoft Office Professional 2008 on a Macintosh computer |
| Details: | These instructions will show you how to install Microsoft Office Professional 2008 on a Mac computer.
CAUTION:
- If doing the installation off campus or on Wireless, you will need to enable the Pomona College VPN connection. To do so, CLICK HERE.
- If doing the installation off campus, the installation download may take a couple hours, depending on your connection speed.
CAUTION:
Before installing the Pomona College copy of the software, it is important to remove the trial version of Office that you might currently have on your computer.
1. On your computer, go to the GO menu at the top and select Applications.
2. In the window that opens, look for and drag the Office 2004/2008 for Mac Test Drive folder to the trash.
3. Empty your trash.
The following instructions will show you how to download and install Microsoft Office 2008 on you Macintosh:
1. Go to the GO menu at the top of your computer"s display and click on Connect To Server.
2. For Server Address:, type in smb://fargo3.campus.pomona.edu
Then, click Connect.
3. A window will open displaying various network volumes available to you. Find and select macsoftware. Then, click OK.
If prompted for a username and password, type in the following:
a) Domain = CAMPUS [Ignore in OS 10.5.x [Leopard]. you will not see this.]
b) Name = your username [eg., ces02012, ces04747, ces01925]
c) Password = your network password [the same as used for email, my.pomona.edu, Sakai, etc]
4. Once successfully logged in, a window should open displaying the various folders of the macsoftware volume. To get to the Microsoft Office 2008 installer, open the following folders:
OS X --> Applications --> General --> Microsoft Office
5. Drag and drop the Microsoft Office 2008.zip file to your computer"s desktop.
6. Double click on the new Microsoft Office 2008.zip file that is on your desktop. Once the unarchiving is complete, there should be a new file on your Desktop named Microsoft Office 2008.cdr. Double click on this file. This will create an CD icon on your desktop named Microsoft Office 2008.
7. Double click on the Microsoft Office 2008 CD icon. This should open to a window like the one below. Double click on the file labeled Office Installer. This will begin the Microsoft Office 2008 installation. Just follow the on screen instructions.
8. Once the installation is complete, reboot your computer.
9. After the reboot, move the Microsoft Office 2008.zip and the Microsoft Office 2008.cdr files to the trash. Empty your trash.
9. Go to the Go menu and click on Applications. In Applications, open the Microsoft Office 2008 folder and double click Microsoft Word [or other Office 2008 program]. After a brief setup, Word should open.
The installation is now complete.
