How do I print to a network printer [in a lab, office, etc] on campus
Solution:
Details:
These instructions will show you how to setup a networked printer on your computer.

NOTE:
- Make sure your computer is plugged into a physical network jack [ethernet] or connected to the POMONA wireless network [not CINE, POM-GUEST, or other).
- These instructions work for any network printer (e.g.  the ones Chemistry, Psychology, etc.).  We"re just using the lab printers as an example

  2. A login screen should pop up.  Under User name, type in CAMPUS followed by your Pomona username (e.g.  xyz02004) and enter your password.
If you want to use this printer in the future, make sure to check the Remember my password checkbox.  If you forgot, don"t worry, just see Step 6 once you"re done.
If you are doing this on a Pomona College owned computer [lab, faculty, or staff computer], you should not be required to enter a password.

  3. Find the printer you want to install from the list and double-click it.  (click on View > Details to make things easier to see)
If you"re unsure about which printer you want, here"s a list of the more popular machines:
    • ITBLB-HP9000 - The two ITB black-and-white printers (your print job will be sent to whichever one has fewer jobs pending).
    • ITBLB-HP4600 - The ITB color printer.
    • HAHN-HP8150 - The two Hahn black-and-white printers (your print job will be sent to whichever one has fewer jobs pending).
    • POM-HAHN-HP4600-CLR - The Hahn color printer.
    • LYON-HP9000 - The Lyon lab"s B&W printer
    • LYON-HP4600 - The Lyon lab"s color printer

  4. Click Yes on the warning message that pops up.

  6. If you forgot to save your password, you can add it (and others) to your saved network password list.

Printing to Network Printers from a Mac
First, the easy way.  Download the following applications based on your Macintosh operation system:
- Lab_Printer_Setup_(Panther-Tiger)
- Lab_Printer_Setup_(Leopard/OS 10.5)
Enter your name and password; when your network password changes, just run the program again and update your password.  This program gives you the option to add printers from ITB, Lyon, Smith Campus Center, Wig, Hahn, and Oldenborg.

If you are unable to download the program, or want to add a different lab printer, you can use the following instructions to add the printer manually:

Please note that if you ever change your Pomona password, you will need to delete all your lab printers from Print Center, and then add them again using the process below using your new password.  (To delete a printer, open Print Center, highlight its name in the list, and click the Delete button.

Panther/Tiger Instructions (scroll down for Leopard):

  1. From Finder, select Go > Utilities.  Open the Printer Setup Utility.
For Mac OS 10.3: Hold down the Option key and click Add, then proceed to step 4.
For Mac OS 10.4: Click Add to open the Printer List window.

  2. Hold down the Option key and select More Printers...

  3. In the window that appears, select Advanced from the top drop-down menu.  From the second drop-down, select Windows Printer via SAMBA

  4. Now, you need to decide what printer you want to set-up on your computer.  Here are a list of the more popular printers (a more-complete list can be found at http://scribe.pomona.edu)
    • ITBLB-HP9000 - The two ITB black-and-white printers (your print job will be sent to whichever one has fewer jobs pending).

  5. We"re going to add the ITBLB-HP9000.  The Device Name can be whatever you want (something that will tell you what the printer is).

  6. The Device URI should be of the form smb:// USERNAME: PASSWORD @CAMPUS/scribe.pomona.edu/ printer name** *.  So if your username were *ces02005 and your password was password, you would enter smb://ces02005:password@CAMPUS/scribe.pomona.edu/itblb-hp9000.

  7. In the Printer Model dropdown, select the company that makes the printer ( HP in this case)

  8. In the list that appears, find the specific computer model.  ( HP LaserJet 9000 series)

  9. Now, your window should look something like this:

4. In the right pane, scroll down to the desired printer and select it, and in the Print Using: menu, choose the appropriate printer driver by clicking Select Printer Software...
