| | How to: Setup a VPN connection in Windows Vista |
| Details: | These instructions will show you how to setup a Pomona College VPN connection in all the client?side variations of Windows Vista, namely Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, and Ultimate. To start:
01) Go to the Start menu and click on 'Control Panel'
02) In the 'Control Panel Home' window, click on 'Network and Internet'.
03) In the next window, click on 'Connect to a network'.
04) The next screen, click on 'Set up a connection or network'.
NOTE: This screen may not look quite like the example if you have networks already defined, such as campus.pomona.edu
05) On the next screen, click on 'Connect to a workplace' then click 'Next'.
06) Next click 'Use my Internet connection (VPN)'.
07) Now, enter the server information:
a) Internet address: vpn.pomona.edu
b) Destination Name: Pomona College VPN
c) Check the option 'Don't connect now; just set it up so I can connect later'
d) Then click the 'Next' button.
08) Enter your Pomona College username [e.g., ITS04747, ITS02009, etc.] and password.
CAUTION: Do not click the 'Remember this password' option as this may create some confusion when your network password is changed.
09) Click the 'Create' button.
10) Finally, in the next Window, you should see the words 'The connection is ready to use'.
Choose 'Connect now' or 'Close' to connect at a later time.
NOTE: To use the newly created VPN connection again in the future:
a) Go to the Start menu
b) Click on 'Connect To'
c) In the window that appears, double click on the 'Pomona College VPN' listing.
d) Enter your Pomona College username [e.g., ITS04747, ITS02009, etc.] and password. Then, click 'Connect'
